As a lifetime Brewer fan, I was happy to see a response from the Brewers GM regarding the Yankees offer to CC Sabathia. After the Brewers offered CC Sabathia a $100 million offer, the money spenders themselves, the New York Yankees, offered Sabathia a deal worth $140 million. That to me is just wrong. Doug Melvin obviously felt the same way.
"They could have offered him 110, there was no reason to go up to 140," said Melvin.
It seems that the Yankees are gonna once again going to try and buy a world series title. Hal Steinbrenner is cut out of the same mold as his father who emptied the bank on some of the games superstars. The Yankees have single handily made it hard for teams to compete in the free agent market.
But getting back to Melvin. His arguments against the Yanks were justified and this reporter feels that these criticisms are long over due. Not just from a Brewer stand point, but all of Major League Baseball.
