It wasn't anything that happened on the field that made Game 3 of the 1989 World Series so memorable. It was what happened minutes before the game that made the game so historic. A major earthquake rocked the San Francisco Bay Area and Candlestick Park just before the Giants were getting ready to host the A's in the Fall Classic. (link)
