Remembering first trip to the Stadium

 
The first time I ever set foot in Yankee Stadium was on May 5, 1979. My father took me to the Bronx to see the Yankees take on the A’s, just a few blocks from the apartment he grew up in. I don’t remember many details of the day, though the magic of the internet has allowed me to go back and look them up thanks to the heads-up thinking of my dad, who took a picture of the scoreboard with the starting lineups. The Yankees’ starting lineup that day: Willie Randolph, 2B Thurman Munson, C Lou Piniella, LF Cliff Johnson, DH Graig Nettles, 3B Reggie Jackson, RF Juan Beniquez, CF Jim Spencer, 1B Bucky Dent, SS Tommy John started the game for the Yankees, pitching a complete game in a 5-4 Yankees win. John allowed four runs on 11 hits. The A’s were up 3-0 in the sixth and 4-2 in the eighth, but Mickey Rivers belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the eighth to give the Yankees the win.
