Remembering the last time Yankee Stadium shut down

 
Today is going to be a very sad day for all of us Yankee fans. Saying goodbye to the old stadium is heartbreaking. I will have lots more to say on that later on today, but before I do that, I’d like to talk a bit about what it was like the last time the stadium shut down, on September 30, 1973. There’s a big article in today’s Daily News about it - click here to read. While I wasn’t at that game - I was too young to go - my father, and both my brothers, were there that day. They got a Stadium chair that day, which I now have in my home (so I already have my piece of memorabilia from the House That Ruth Built. More on that in a bit.) Anyhow, I’m going to turn this Squawkers blog entry over to my brother, Patrick, as he recounts what happened the first time Yankee Stadium closed: “I was looking forward to running out on the playing field.
