Former Florida Marlins starting pitcher Carl Pavano is interested in a return with the Marlins.
Marlins' GM Michael Hill met with Pavano's agent Tim O'Connell and it seems the Marlins may be close to signing the free agent. Pavano had a 33-23 record in two-plus seasons with the Marlins.
Pavano was a key part of the Florida Marlins' 2003 World Series run. The 32-year-old right-hander was first acquired by the Marlins in a trade with the Montreal Expos that sent away power hitter Cliff Floyd.
In the 2004, Pavano enjoyed a career year, winning an impressive 18 games and serving as the ace of a struggling Florida Marlins' pitching staff. Following the 2004 season, Pavano became a free agent and the New York Yankees had their checkbooks ready.
The Yankees signed Pavano to a four-year $39.5 million contract, but Pavano struggled to stay healthy and was often placed on injured reserve instead of the pitching mound.
