El notable y controversial delantero inglés Robbie Fowler estaría en la mira del Chicago Fire de Cuauhtémoc Blanco para la temporada 2009. Fowler acaba de convertirse en agente libre tras desvincularse del Blackburn Rovers. El delantero tuvo un breve y desafortunado paso por el equipo dirigido por Paul Ince (jugó tan sólo tres partidos y no anotó goles) y se encuentra en busca de un nuevo equipo que quiera contar con sus servicios. Como no ha recibió muchas ofertas en Inglaterra, Robbie Fowler vería con buenos ojos el sumarse a la Major League Soccer el 2009. De acuerdo a “The People”, es el Chicago Fire quien estaría negociando la posibilidad de traerlo a la MLS, aunque el sueldo ofrecido (algo más de $8,500 dólares semanales) sería lo que aún no permite cerrar el traspaso. Fowler es considerado una leyenda en el Liverpool, club donde anotó 171 goles en 330 partidos disputados.
