For a guy who reportedly wants nothing to do with New York, CC Sabathia is becoming awfully chummy with Brian Cashman.
After receiving positive vibes all day from Sabathia’s camp, the Yankees remained confident that they remained the favorites to land the big lefthander. Then Cashman left Las Vegas and hopped a flight to San Francisco to meet with Sabathia, hoping to close the deal.
A Yankees official told the Daily News that Cashman left the Bellagio this afternoon to head to California, where the Yankees are hoping to take the top free-agent pitcher off the market before the Giants, Dodgers or Angels have an opportunity to lure him to his home state.
The Yankees had been preparing offers for A.J. Burnett and Ben Sheets, but those moves are on the back burner for the moment.
“That’s all for later,” the official said of the other free agents. “Right now, this is our focus.”
