The Jeremy Shockey-to-the-Saints deal is still alive.
The New Orleans Saints just traded up from the 10th pick of the first round to the seventh pick so they could select USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis. To get there, according to the NFL Network, they sent their third-round pick to the New England Patriots (they also got the Patriots’ fifth-round selection).
That means the Saints still have their second-round pick (40th) overall, which remains the key to the Saints’ hopes of acquiring Shockey. They have offered that pick plus either a sixth-rounder this year or a fifth-rounder next year.
