Saturday night Mets-Cards recap
Here’s the late-night, or early morning recap, from Shea, where the Mets lost to the Cardinals, 10-8, in 14 innings.
• Aaron Heilman received kudos for logging three innings, and tossing 58 pitches, the most he’s ever thrown in relief, even if he did allow a game-deciding two-run homer to Albert Pujols. Jerry Manuel was prepared to use Oliver Perez if the game went to the 15th inning.
• Despite settling down after a four-run first inning and tossing four scoreless innings, the Mets appear inclined to let Brandon Knight head to the Olympics rather than stick him in the bullpen. That means Carlos Muniz can exhale.
• Ryan Church received word after Saturday’s game that he’s been cleared to accompany the team to Florida after today’s game. Don’t get too excited. Church hasn’t even started baseball activities yet.
