Shocker: Mets are second-class citizens in this town

 
I don’t find Jerry Manuel’s comments about how the Mets are the “second team” below the Yanks in this town at all shocking or surprising. Nor was I offended by anything else he said about the teams’ respective statuses. “Shoot, use that as motivation. If you want to be first, win,” said Manuel, who is 6-6 since taking over for Willie Randolph. “Win some world championships. Don’t be first just by popularity or who wears what jersey. Win some championships and you can claim first. These comments all seem pretty obvious to me. Department of Duh-type obvious. The thing that wasn’t obvious, though, was the fact that Jerry Manuel has proven to be such a quote machine in his few short weeks as Mets manager. He’s starting to rival no less than Hank Steinbrenner when it comes to grabbing the headlines.
