Shockey deal appears dead

It looks like we’ll still have Jeremy Shockey to kick around a little more. The New Orleans Saints just used their second-round pick (40th overall) to take Indiana cornerback Tracy Porter. Since that was the pick they had hoped to trade to the Giants for Shockey, it appears that the deal has fallen through. Apparently, though, there were some last-minute negotiations. The Saints used all seven minutes on their clock before making the pick. And Giants GM Jerry Reese, coach Tom Coughlin and scouting director Marc Ross are still upstairs in the war room. Usually by now at least one or two of them would have made it to the press room to discuss the first-round pick. The Saints’ last known offer to the Giants was that second-rounder and either a sixth this year or a fifth next year. Apparently that wasn’t enough. Now it’s going to be very interesting to see what happens next. Shockey has made it very clear he’s not happy in New York. [link]
