Sigi Schmid named first coach of Seattle Sounders (AP)

Sigi Schmid has been named the first coach of the Seattle Sounders FC after leading the Columbus Crew to the Major League Soccer championship last month. The club announced the hiring of the 55-year-old Schmid on Tuesday after several days of speculation. Schmid agreed to a multiyear contract with the expansion Sounders, who open training camp in late January and will begin MLS play next March. (link)
