When everything indicates a game will be a low-scoring battle of attrition, expect nine goals, at least. But hey, if Henrik Lundqvist is entitled to an off-day every now and then, I figure I can be allowed, too.
This ugly 6-3 loss to Vancouver can’t all be hung on Lundqvist - the Rangers had so, so many breakdowns in their own end and turnovers that wound up in the back of their net, that Lundqvist barely had any help (“He’s a great goaltender, but he’s not a great defenseman, too,” Tom Renney said). The Rangers do, however, deserve credit for soldiering on through the end and nearly making a real game of it - 17 shots in the third and some dandy chances, too.
And man, it wasn’t Wade Redden’s night. His turnover of a lively bouncing puck led to the Alex Burrows breakaway goal that made it 2-0 and that Renney figured was the turning point of ...
