Former San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions coach Steve Mariucci, once a Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach, issued a statement on Brett Favre's retirement. "Throughout his 17 years, he never lost that feeling of playing the game for the first time," Mariucci said. "That's what makes Brett Favre unlike any other player I have ever seen. In what really came as a shock to NFL fans, the Green Bay Packers QB has called it quits. The Mississippi gunslinger said in a voicemail to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, “I know I can still play, but it’s like I told my wife, I’m just tired mentally. I’m just tired.”
