Once again a season that began with great expectations ended with an early playoffs exit. For the third time in the last four years the San Antonio Spurs eliminated your Phoenix Suns from the NBA post season. This time it was 4-1 as the Spurs beat the Suns 92-87 in San Antonio to advance to the second round.

Sports Illustrated's Jack McCallum reports that Mike D'Antoni will NOT be the coach of the Phoenix Suns in 08-09. McCallum states that Chicago, New York, and Toronto are possible destinations for D'Antoni next season.

Either team could have won game five of the San Antonio-Phoenix series--and, as usually happens when these teams play a close game, San Antonio made just enough plays to win while the Suns squandered several opportunities. Neither team shot well from the field but when the Spurs needed to score they either made a shot or drew a foul and then sank the free throws.

Despite averaging 58 regular-season wins the past four seasons, Mike D'Antoni might be out as Phoenix Suns coach. An SI.com report on Tuesday night said the coach will not return after his team was eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in five games in their best-of-7 first-round playoff series. D'Antoni has two years and $8.5 million left on his contract.
