While I was watching the Phoenix Suns lose their third straight home game to the suddenly rejuvenated Chicago Bulls, I couldn't decide which team wishes they had Mike D'Antoni on their sidelines.
Just the other day, Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, who failed to secure a deal for D'Antoni last summer even though Chicago was D'Antoni's preferred destination, said of his team: "You want the grade up 'til today? What's the lowest grade you can give? This has been a disaster. It's embarrassing. But it will get better."
That's some endorsement for head coach Vinny Del Negro, who worked in the Suns front office for the past few years but wasn't considered for the job. Instead, the position went to Terry Porter, who despite being the top assistant in Detroit wasn't considered the Pistons job.
D'Antoni probably got out of Phoenix just in time; the Suns are an aging team with a bunch of grumpy veterans, including Steve Nash. It's just a matter of time before Porter, a good guy who deserves better, ...
