Some thoughts on the just-released schedule: • I’m not surprised by the opener, Jets at Dolphins. The NFL always like those “subplot” games. This time, it’s Tangini versus Bill Parcells. Any way we can get Parcells on the mid-week conference call instead of Tony Sparano? • Week 2 and 3 are brutal: the Patriots at home, the Chargers on the road. If the Jets start out in their usual September trance, they’ll get crushed. The Patriots and Chargers are very tough, 3-4 defensive teams that will be hard on QB Kellen Clemens - if he beats out Chad Pennington. And don’t assume the opener will be a cakewalk. The Florida heat, combined with excitement generated by the Sparano/Parcells debut, will make it tough for the Jets. • The bye week arrives in Week 5, sooner than the past two years. Now Mangini will have 12 games to save the season after working his bye-week magic. • October is easy. They face the Bengals, Raiders and Chiefs, which means ... (link)
