Tennessee-UCLA Provides Most Excitement of First Week
Phil Fulmer's Tennessee Volunteers versus Rick Neuheisel's UCLA Bruins was the game of the week, and far as most media outlets were concerned. Boy, did it live up to the billing.
The Bruins overcame four first-half interceptions from third-stringer Kevin Craft to win a thriller 27-24 in overtime.
Craft, who looked lucky to even be a third-stringer for the Bruins in the first half, came out with a vengeance in the latter periods, erasing the Volunteers' seven point halftime lead.
After Craft marched his ball club down the field in the closing minutes, putting the Bruins ahead by three with 27 seconds remaining, Fulmer's offense had one last opportunity to extend the game.
Jonathon Crompton looked dynamite on the last series' for the Vols, setting up a 47-yard field goal for kicker Daniel Lincoln. Lincoln delivered the ball straight through the uprights as time expired to send the game into extra time.
