Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo was named the best in Europe last night at the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards ceremony. He becomes just the sixth player from an English club and the fourth United player to win the award, following on from Stanley Matthews, Denis Law, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, and Michael Owen. Only five clubs have had more European Footballers of the Year than United (Juventus, Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich).
