'The game is over' for Packer at CBS

 
College basketball analyst Billy Packer and CBS have parted ways after 27 years. He will be replaced as the network’s lead color commentator by nice guy Clark Kellogg. Although Packer has an astute basketball mind and strong, perceptive insights into the game, we can’t say we were surprised by the divorce. We started hearing whispers Packer was out at this spring’s Final Four because he had apparently agitated the higher-ups at the network on too many occasions in the past with his annoying elitism, constant ragging on officials and continuous failure to ever admit he made a mistake. Packer was heavily criticized during this year’s tournament, particularly when he announced, “The game is over” after Kansas broke out to 38-12 lead over North Carolina in the national semifinals. The Tar Heels rallied to cut the lead to 54-50 before eventually losing the game. Packer took direct aim at the mid-majors - railing at the fact the Missouri Valley received four ... (link)
