The good, bad and the ugly of the Cashman Era

Somehow, I figured that Jon Lester’s no-hitter would send Yankees fans into a frenzy over the state of their team - and I was right. The comments section and my e-mail inbox have been hit with a barrage of panicky rants, most of them insisting that the Yankees fire Brian Cashman (or “Crashman” as some of you have so cleverly decided to call him) and clean house of the high-priced, veteran contracts. First of all, take it easy. Secondly, get real. Ridding yourselves of these contracts is virtually impossible. If you don’t think they’re good players and they’re making too much money, what would make other teams - all of which have more financial parameters to work with than the Yankees - want to acquire them? More From Hank On Yanks Slow Start

Anyone who thought Hank was going to flip his lid after this weekend's 2-game sweep at the hands of the crosstown rival Mets (I did) was wrong. He is surprisingly calm, even after the embarrassing loss on Sunday. So calm I'm starting to wonder if he's actually a Steinbrenner. "You can't be mad at this point," Steinbrenner told the AP Monday night after watching the Class-A Tampa Yankees play ...

"I Wouldn't Bury Them Yet"

Anthony McCarron of the Daily News spoke to a major league scout who has been covering the Yanks this year. Here's his take on the team: “I wouldn’t bury them yet.” Still, the scout said he didn’t like the Yankee pitching staff, for the most part, and he thought that hitters would begin to figure out Mike Mussina. “(Andy) Pettitte’s pitching lousy,” the scout said. “He’s not the Pettitte we ...
