Throwing arm aside, Damon's having some year

 
Greetings from the West Coast, where it is not nearly as hot - at least by the Bay - as New York. Anthony McCarron here, subbing for Our Man Mark all week. Join me as the Yankees take on the A’s in Oak-town, beginning tonight, and the Astros in Houston starting on Friday. For openers, I thought we’d look at the season that Johnny Damon has put together so far. I know a lot of Yankee fans have complained about him in the past and I know his throwing arm stinks, but he’s been very good offensively this year. Check out some stats: .326 average (third in the AL) .392 on-base (7th) .508 slugging (9th) .900 OPS (9th) 77 hits (4th) 19 doubles (4th) 28 extra-base hits (6th) Not bad. The geniuses at Baseball-Reference.com put together the following interesting chart recently, which puts Damon’s season into a little perspective, at least in Yankeeland.
