Tigers' Renteria, Thames set milestones (AP)

 
Kenny Rogers pitched seven strong innings and Marcus Thames homered in his fifth straight game to help the Detroit Tigers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-1 on Tuesday night. Thames matched the franchise record for consecutive games with a homer and Edgar Renteria recorded his 2,000th career hit, beating out an infield single in the sixth, as Detroit ended a four-game road losing streak.
