After years of being the "Cellar Dwellers" of the Western Conference, it appears the Chicago Blackhawks are finally putting the pieces together for a playoff run this upcoming season.
The Blackhawks announced today the signing of centre Tim Brent to a one-year contract. Brent, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Danny Richmond on July 17, hasn't exactly made a name for himself in the NHL yet.
Bent has skated in a total of 16 National Hockey League games, recording just one goal and six penalty minutes in those games. However, the AHL appears to be his comfort zone. In four professional seasons of hockey, Brent has tallied 133 points (54 goals, 79 assists) and 193 penalty minutes in 205 career AHL contests.
During the 2007-08 season he notched career highs in goals (18), assists (43), and pints (61) in 74 regular season games, while playing for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh's affiliate).
