Tribe Files: Franklin Gutierrez

“Frank the Tank” has started the 2008 season off in style. On opening day he was three for three with a three-run home run and two runs scored. He was the difference maker in Cleveland’s wild opening day victory. Though Gutierrez has now gone seven straight at-bats without a hit since the opener, he is showing better plate discipline and giving better at-bats than at any time before in a Tribe uniform. After a strong showing a season ago as a semi-regular and showing excellent improvement this spring, Gutierrez looks ready to be in the lineup from start to finish. The Indians picked Gutierrez up from the Dodgers in the trade that sent Milton Bradley to Los Angeles in April of 2004.  Gutierrez was just coming off of a season in which he hit 24 home runs and stole 20 bases as a 20-year old in A & AA-ball. Game #3: Cleveland’s offense wastes Westbrook’s effort

Jake Westbrook was the hottest Indians’ pitcher this spring. The good news for Westbrook is that it carried over to his first start against the White Sox for this afternoon’s 12:00 game. The bad news is that the Tribe offense was shut down by a better performance from starter John Danks, who led the Pale Hose to a 2-1 victory. Westbrook did everything he could to win the game....

Rain, Rain Go Away (The Cold Too)

As most of you probably know by now, tonight’s Rays game in Baltimore was washed away. So Tampa heads to New York in hopes of encountering better weather. Fat chance. I’m watching the New York-Toronto game on television, and people are bundled up like its October. Skull caps are everywhere, and hits hard to come by.

The Jake…er…The Prog…er…Progressive Field.

It started off as a pipedream, a new stadium in Cleveland. I don’t think there was an Indians fan who was around from the 50’s through the 80’s that thought Cleveland would ever have a new stadium, until the Jacobs brothers purchased the team in 1986. Well...what are we supposed to call the park now...'The Prog?' You have got to be kidding me...right?
