Tucker will lead defense

Mel Tucker, Cleveland's defensive backs coach the past three seasons, is the club's new defensive coordinator, replacing Todd Grantham, who was fired by the Browns on Friday. Tucker also received a two-year contract extension through the 2010 season. "We are excited to have Mel as our defensive coordinator," coach Romeo Crennel said in a statement. "He has a football plan, life plan, coaches the fundamentals and relates well with the players. I believe he will be successful in this new role. (link)
