The 2009 NBA Draft carried few surprises.
Blake Griffin, the consensus best player in the draft, went No. 1 overall to the Los Angeles Clippers, and only a handful of trades gave a spark of unpredictability to the proceedings.
Then came Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn.
With four picks in the first round of the draft, and three of the top ten picks, many expected Minnesota to shake things up a bit. There had been rumors of teams trading up earlier on in the week and a few big-name trades brought a buzz to the floor at Madison Square Garden.
But no one anticipated this.
With the fifth and sixth picks, Kahn selected two point guards: Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio, and overtime-thriller king Jonny Flynn.
Alright, what's going on here?
The same kind of head-scratcher came about last year when the Wolves drafted Kevin Love, a great player in his own right, but a kid who played the same position as their best player, Al Jefferson.
