As we anticipated two weeks ago, 6-5 guard Tyreke Evans, a McDonald’s All-American and the Pennsylvania 4-A Player of the Year from American Christian Academy in Aston, Pa., has announced for Memphis this afternoon, where he should be a perfect fit in John Calipari’s dribble drive offense. Villanova finished second, but we felt it was Memphis all along, particularly after Calipari signed a contract extension that will pay him $2.5 million per. Speaking of Calipari, he should have some influence in the next UMass coaching search. Former UMass player and current Memphis assistant Derek Kellogg, who is from Springfield, Mass., and UTEP coach Tony Barbee, who also played for Calipari at UMass and was an assistant coach there and at Memphis, should both be in the mix. *** Iona has announced the signing of three more players to National Letters of Intent.
