UNC Post-Game Blackboard: Maryland Terrapins
O.A.R. should remake their "Crazy Game of Poker" song to mirror this game. I still haven't caught my breath.
The Tar Heels picked an excellent game to play their worst defense of the season—and their best shooting performance. North Carolina played an awful lot like their rival down the road, making 11 first half three-pointers that led to a 108-91 victory over Maryland. Four Tar Heels scored 16 points or more, and Wayne Ellington continued his reemergence, scoring 34 points and calmly weaving through Maryland's press all night long. With Maryland shooting 56 percent in the first half, the second half seemed destined for a Terrapins comeback since the Tar Heels were overly reliant on jump shots. But the Tar Heels rode Ellington and Tyler Hansbrough's offensive explosions to overcome poor team defense. Every time the Heels made a spectacular play, the Terrapins responded with a dose of Carolina's own medicine by rushing the ball back down the court.
