United tops San Jose 3-1 on two Gallardo assists (AP)

 
D.C. United defender Gonzalo Martinez scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute as United went on to beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 on Sunday. Four minutes after an Earthquakes equalizer, Martinez received a ball from midfielder Marcelo Gallardo and rocketed a ball off the far post and in. The assist was one of two for Gallardo on the day.
