US women's soccer team regains top ranking (AP)

The U.S. women's soccer team regained the top spot in the FIFA rankings with its victory in this month's Algarve Cup. The Americans moved ahead of Germany, which had been ranked No. 1 since winning the Women's World Cup last year. Sweden remained third in the quarterly rankings released Friday, followed by Brazil, Norway, North Korea, France, Denmark, Canada and Japan.

Sven Simon and his Azusa Pacific teammates returned to the NAIA National Championship for the third consecutive season in 2007. Their perseverance paid off as the Cougars captured the program’s first-ever title after defeating Concordia. Azusa Pacific defeated their Golden State Athletic Conference rival 2–0 with Simon scoring the historic first goal late in the first half of play.
