Villanova-Syracuse: Villanova Juices Orange at Carrier Dome
The 12th-ranked Villanova Wildcats moved to 22-5 on the season and 10-4 in the rugged Big East with a season sweep of No. 24 Syracuse. The Orange fell to 19-8 and 7-7 in the conference, dropping six of their last eight.
Senior guard Dwayne Anderson led six Villanova scorers in double-figures with 22 points. He was 4-6 from three-point range. The Orange ran into Anderson’s best game of the season.
The story today, though, was Villanova’s high-energy team game on both ends of the floor, and the leadership of its three seniors, Anderson, Dante Cunningham and Shane Clark.
Cunningham scored 12 points with 12 rebounds and six assists. Clark added 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Villanova seniors combined for 49 points, 24 rebounds and 10 assists.
In a game where Syracuse made run after run to close the deficit, the Wildcats always found a way to push back. Defensively they were very active, with nine steals, and forced the Orange into numerous rushed shots.
