Wakefield, Timlin share historic shutout

Tim Wakefield and Mike Timlin had no idea they were making history Tuesday night. For the first time in baseball's modern era, the Boston Red Sox had two pitchers over 40 combine on a shutout. Wakefield gave up just two hits in eight innings and Timlin got the final three outs of a 5-0 victory over the Tigers.

I am sitting here trying to figure out what the real story of last night’s game Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers game is. Is it Tim Wakefield’s 8 inning, 2-hit 6 strikeout performance? Or is it Big Papi and Manny having back-to-back jacks? Or is it Manny’s 497 home run of his career came on the first pitch of Freddy Pelosi’s MLB career. (Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 5/7

The weather forecast isn’t looking to pretty tonight in Detroit as the Boston Red Sox and Tigers look to play game 3 of their 4-game set. The forecast calls for a 60% chance of showers with 20 to 30 MPH winds. It has been raining at Comerica Park for most of the day. So there’s a pretty good chance it will be a long night since this is the Red Sox only trip to the Motor City this season.Starting Lineups, May 7
