Was Mark Teixeira's Trade To Atlanta the Worst Trade in Braves History?
Last season, the Atlanta Braves, then 4.5 games back of division-leading New York, traded away their future for Mark Teixeira, hoping to jump past the Mets. Well, 13 months later, the Braves are floundering near the bottom of the NL East, seven games ahead of the Washington Nationals after getting swept by bottom-feeding Washington this weekend.
Teixeira, now an Angel, had nice stats as a Brave, batting .317, with 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 54 games last season, and .283 with 20 homers and 78 RBI in 103 games this season.
He is now batting .376 with eight home runs and 24 RBI in 30 games for the Angels, boosting them to the best record in the American League.
The Rangers acquired C/1B Jarrod Saltalamacchia, SS Elvis Andrus, and three pitchers: Neftali Perez, Matt Harrison, and Beau Jones in the deal for Teixeira.
