White Sox, Dotel agree on 2-year, $11M deal

Right-hander Octavio Dotel and the Chicago White Sox agreed Tuesday on an $11-million, two-year contract, bolstering a bullpen that ranked among the majors' worst last season. The 34-year-old Dotel spent last season with the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves, but a shoulder injury limited him to only 33 appearances and 30 2-3 innings. He went 2-1 with a 4.11 ERA and was dealt from Kansas City to Atlanta at the trading deadline. [link]

MLB: Closer Octovio Dotel signs with Chicago White Sox | FrontRowSportsReport.com: Sports Blog

Right handed closer Octovio Dotel has signed with the Chicago White Sox today for $11 million over 2 years. The White Sox had one of the worst bullpens in baseball last year and will look to improve with the signing of Dotel. Last year the White Sox blew 23 saves and posted a 19-25 record with a ERA of 5.49 - hardly numbers that will win you a games, let alone a World Series.

Thanks, Ken Williams

Chicago White Sox GM Ken Williams made a high risk signing when he inked Octavio Dotel for two years and $11 million guaranteed dollars. Dotel has pitched in 62 games over the past three seasons. He missed all of 2005 with an elbow injury and had problems with his pitching shoulder toward the end of last year. His mechanics are horrible, and that's probably the reason why he's injury prone.
