White Sox @ Tigers: Pierzynski Blast Gives Chicago Second Straight Win

 
AJ Pierzynski's three-run home run in the top of the seventh capped off a 3-for-5 day at the plate and was the margin of victory for the Chicago White Sox in an 8-5 win in Detroit. He had five RBI's in all, and helped even the White Sox record on the season to 2-2. Jose Contreras was shaky for Ozzie Guillen's club, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on 10 hits and four walks.  But all that production for the Tigers was not enough to get them their first win of 2008. Pierzynski's blast broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh, and improved his batting average this season to .529 (9-for-17).  He has two home runs and seven RBI's in the early going. The much-maligned bullpen held down the Tigers lineup after Pierzynski's homer, and Bobby Jenks pitched a scoreless ninth to get his second save in as many days. The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-4 on the season, the first time they started that badly since the 2003 Tigers lost 119 games.  The start for this Tigers club is more alarming ... [link]
