Wie shall overcome

 
There are many dumb rules in sports. I hate that you can’t kick in a puck in hockey and that, in soccer, coaches are allowed to choose anybody they want to take the penalty kick, rather than the player who was fouled. Let serves shouldn’t be replayed in tennis. They are like any other serves. Return them. There are way too many timeouts in basketball. And virtually every rule in football is stupid, so don’t get me started. But in the end, I think the worst rule of all belongs to golf, which requires players to sign their scorecards in the scorer area or be disqualified. I don’t know why golfers need to sign their cards in the first place. No other sport mandates such nonsense, or anything close to it. It’s only the weekend hackers who cheat, and nobody makes them sign anything. Every shot and every indiscretion by PGA and LPGA players are closely monitored by galleries, by TV analysts and by competitors in the same pairings. So it was particularly ridiculous that ...
