at Subway Squawkers - NY Daily News Blogs
I told Squawker Jon earlier this week that I thought Willie Randolph would be a special surprise guest at today’s Old-Timers’ Game. And I was right. They just introduced Willie, to a loud ovation from the crowd. Michael Kay said something about how he was “always a Yankee.” I think that’s true, and that’s why some Met fans were wary of him all along! Willie looked very happy - I can’t remember seeing him smile so much in years.
The introductions are still going on, but the other surprise to me was that David Wells was here today. Oh, and Darryl Strawberry was there as well.
John Sterling just said, in commenting about the sun being out, that “the sun is always shining on the Yankees empire.” I think Squawker Jon just coughed up a lung in disgust!

Major League Baseball News 8/2/2008
David Wells has quite a different life now, surfing and vacationing rather than pitching in the Majors. But Wells came back to the Yankees, a team which he had stints with from 1997-98 and 2002-03, for Old Timers Day and got loud support from the fans.
