WV deja vu? Mountaineers Look to Channel Magic of 2005 Elite Eight Team

 
Where have we seen this before?  West Virginia starts out the season hot, endures some growing pains down the stretch, finds itself squarely on the bubble at the start of the Big East tournament, beats Providence in the first round, pulls an upset to get itself solidly in the dance, and winds up as a 7-seed in the West bracket playing its first round game about 3 hours from Morgantown.  The last time the Mountaineers faced such a scenario (2005), they promptly rattled off stunning wins over Creighton, Wake Forest, and Texas Tech to reach the Elite Eight.  This time?  Believe it--lightning is about to strike twice. Could WVU lose?  Sure.  Arizona is a solid team, with future NBA players like Jarryd Bayless and Chase Budinger leading the charge.  But since Lute Olson left Dodge, the Wildcats have struggled to find their identity--Bayless can't score recently and the team has forgotten some of the finer aspects of the game that had always beein their staple under ... Bubble… Burst

Arizona State was left out of the tournament. They likely lost their spot when Georgia took down Arkansas for the SEC title. The toughest thing to swallow were the seeds Oregon (9) and Arizona (10) landed. That showed the committee didn’t even view us as close to those two teams, despite finishing ahead of them in Pac10 play.
