Yankees sign comedian Crystal to one-day deal

The Yankees are getting older and funnier, at least for a
day. They are signing actor/comedian Billy Crystal to a one-day contract with an invitation to major-league spring training . Crystal, who will turn 60 Friday, is to work out with the Yankees tomorrow and play against the Pirates on Thursday. The contract was approved by commissioner Bud Selig. "I've been waiting 50 years for this call," Crystal said in a release. "Oops, I have to go. Scott Boras is on the phone." Crystal, an avid Yankees fan, directed and produced the 2001 movie ''61*," which chronicled the 1961 home run chase of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle .
