Kasey Kahne will strongly consider leaving Richard Petty Motorsports after next season because of the instability surrounding the organization. Kahne has been unhappy with many parts of RPM this season, including a planned merger with Yates Racing that has yet to happen. Kahne says the company needs to become focused and resolve its lingering issues in the offseason. Kahne said on Friday he will start looking at other teams in January.

Martin Truex Jr. has won the pole at Phoenix International Raceway. Truex turned a lap at 135.120 mph Friday to qualify first for Sunday's race at PIR in his No. 1 Chevrolet. His lap bested Kurt Busch, who qualified second at 134.579 mph in the No. 2 Dodge. It's the first time in NASCAR that car Nos. 1 and 2 started next to each other on the front row for a Sprint Cup race. Defending three-time series champion Jimmie Johnson qualified third, and was followed by Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin.
