Kyle Busch has won the Nationwide Series championship. Busch only needed to start the race Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway to win his first NASCAR title. When the green flag dropped on the race, Busch was the champ. Busch has eight wins in the second-tier series and 11 second-place finishes. He entered with a 190-point lead over polesitter Carl Edwards. Busch had led 2,625 laps entering the race.

Carl Edwards has rolled to a dominating win at Phoenix International Speedway that staved off Kyle Busch's bid to clinch the Nationwide Series title. Busch overcame an early accident to finish ninth, but because Edwards picked up bonuses for leading the most laps and winning the race, Busch will have to wait until next week's finale to wrap up his first NASCAR championship.

NASCAR has docked Kyle Busch 25 Nationwide points and fined crew chief Jason Ratcliff $5,000 after Busch's No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed inspection before last week's race at Texas. NASCAR also placed Ratcliff on probation through the end of the year for actions detrimental to stock car racing, using improper equipment and use of an improperly attached weight. The penalty means Busch now leads Carl Edwards by 247 points with two races remaining.
