Alan Gustafson stood in the garage area at Homestead-Miami Speedway, as fireworks burst overhead and the roar of a burnout emanated from the frontstretch.
Hendrick juggernaut shows no signs of wear

Rick Hendrick's silver anniversary in NASCAR is now officially his most successful, a dynasty unmatched in racing. With Jimmie Johnson's fourth straight title, it's the fifth for the organization this decade and ninth overall, tying the sport's all-time record for car owners. And with Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon finishing second and third in the standings, respectively, it's the first time in the history of the sport one man has stood alone with three teams atop the Cup Series podium.

They're still trying to catch Jimmie: Five with the best chance of dethroning him in 2010

Reid Spencer, Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service

With a fifth-place finish in Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jimmie Johnson clinched his fourth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup title, a record for consecutive championships.
"Four championships in eight years, 47 wins—everything this team has done is truly amazing," Johnson said. "I know that we are solidly in the record books, but I know we have a lot more to accomplish. ... I grew up on two wheels in the dirt. I had no clue I was going to end up here racing stock cars and doing something that had never been done before."

Five drivers most likely to end Johnson's streak:

  1. Mark Martin. "I think Mark Martin is only going to get better in his second year with Hendrick Motorsports," said Dale Jarrett, 1999 Cup champion.
2. Tony Stewart. Two-time champ won the regular season.
3. Kyle Busch. Won Nationwide title. Poised for more.

Martin settles for 2nd again

Typically, when a NASCAR driver does something that only Richard Petty and Bobby Allison have done before is a sign of excellence.

Not this time, not for Mark Martin.

His wait for a NASCAR championship will last at least another year.

Martin accepted NASCAR's silver medal for the fifth time Sunday, unable in the season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway to make a run at derailing Jimmie Johnson's march toward stock-car immortality.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: Autos, Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Many years from now, lots of people will say, "I was there." > The crowd of 75,000 for the Ford 400 Sunday will grow to about 750,000 in 2020.
