The Unuted States’ National Basketball Association has long
been the world’s preeminent basketball league. This is the
country that invented the sport, and it’s highest league is supposed to be where every basketball player the world over aspires to play. United States basketball has lost some of its luster in recent years though. Will premier players start to defect?

It is, admittedly, still a bit premature to
take a step back and break down the revamped
rosters of the Clippers and Warriors. That said, the Warriors and Clippers as we last saw them have been rendered asunder and will be dancing to a different drum next season. The question is, which team has better set themselves up for success in the short- and long-term, and which is just California dreamin’?

You can say what you will about Posey’s
limited offensive game and after-the-whistle antics, but at this
point it’s hard to deny the man’s effectiveness. In four years when his body is wearing down New Orleans will be overpaying for Posey’s services — but if he can help them snatch a title before then, well, you won’t hear anybody complaining about it.

brokered new television deals with local stations, they’ve appeared on national television more than ever before and they’ve signed a few free agents. Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Clippers might actually be trying their hand at competitiveness.

Baron Davis and Elton Brand will still likely
find a big pot of gold at the end
of the rainbow, perhaps as soon as this afternoon, but as it stands these two perennial All-Stars will wake up this morning having said “no thanks” to a guaranteed $34 million between them.

Future All Star Al Jefferson is the second
star power forward after Garnett in Timberwolves history, but
McHale is intent on misusing his talents as well by forcing him to play center. It's a position where Big Al is uncomfortable and statistically half as effective. Meanwhile, Kevin Love could be great, but by all accounts he will be completely redundant with Jefferson. It's a crying shame.
NBA free agency kicks off July 1, but tonight’s 2008 NBA Draft is the last big one-night NBA event until the fall.
