ASR Blog - If you are reading this blog, there’s a good chance you know how much Shaun White has accomplished—from being one of the best in two sports (skateboarding and snowboarding) to winning a gold in the 2006 Olympic Games, so you would think that his hometown station would be interested in doing a story on him...

DC launches TV
It seems as if our “little” action sports companies just keep growing and growing. It’s so cool to see what were once, small companies started by people who had a passion for a sport, evolve into multi-million dollar brands who have the marketing savvy to hit on what’s next. Case in point—DC announced today that they are launching DC Skateboarding TV.

Surfboard Technology
Have you had a chance to read the latest issue (April ‘08) of TW Business ? Focusing on the state of hardgoods in the surf industry, it was filled with tech information on boards and fins, interviews with some of the world’s top shapers, and what is selling in the shops. At first, when seeing all the tech articles, I thought the issue would be dry, but instead, I was fascinated.

Surfboards and Celebrities
ASR Blog - I remember when I first saw Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake surfing. It was in a magazine like Star or US (I know, I read them, guilty pleasure) and I remember noticing that they were riding Evolution surfboards.

Santa Monica Beaches
I was up in Santa Monica today, and the thing that always strikes me while I’m there is how the people love their beaches. If you stroll along the boardwalk, you can see that the city has built parks all along it—there are playgrounds for kids, obstacle courses for adults, rings, bars, etc for exercise, even a giant chess set.

ASR Talking Heads: Create A Skate
When I was in high school, I think the coolest (a.k.a. fun) class was ASB or yearbook. And, the only real thing that made it cool was that our teacher (same one for both) used to tape Beverly Hills 90210 and let us watch it in class. Nowadays, there seems to be a plethora of fun classes...

ASR Blog - At this year’s Winter X Games, you may have noticed that they introduced a new event. Calling it Big Air, it was described in ESPN the Magazine as, “an update to 2007’s best-trick event, big air features four riders facing off head-to-head. ASR Talking Heads Blog: Coastal Commission meeting
ASR Talking Heads Blog: Coastal Commission meeting
Living a short bike ride away from Trestles, I have a personal interest in the proposed 241 toll road completion that is slated to run right through the San Mateo campground and negatively affect the breaks at Trestles and San Onofre. I knew plenty of others had an interest as well. Little did I know how many of us would turn out in support of saving our State Parks!

 Shark Attack in North County
Shark Attack in North County
Have you heard about this yet? This morning, in Solana Beach, a man was attacked by what officials believe was a Great White shark. The man, part of a group of swimmers, was bitten in the legs; his friends dragged him out of the water, and he was pronounced dead about an hour later. Makes those who surf at San Onofre rethink getting into the water, huh? Great Whites are seen at Trail One, ...

Shark Attack Month?
What is it with the shark attack stories that have been headlining the newspapers this past week? First there was the attack which resulted in a fatality in Solana Beach, CA. Yesterday I read about a teen who was bit by a shark while surfing in Florida—luckily, he escaped with only the bite mark to talk about. Now today I read that a surfer in Troncones, Mexico was bitten, and then died as a ...

Archy: Built for Speed, Born to Ride!
April 11 --- ASR Blog: Bill Ballard's "Archy: Built for Speed, Born to Ride!" premiered at the Lido in Newport Beach. --- The film, centered on the life of professional surfer Matt Archbold, promised to be a good one. --- I was eagerly anticipating it because living in San Clemente coupled with working in the industry, I always hear stories of the mid-80’s when Archy ruled the local waves...

Go Skateboarding Day
You have a little over two days to figure out what you’re going to do for Go Skateboarding Day, which is this Saturday, June 21. Created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) in 2004, the event “originated as the day for skateboarders to have fun, to raise awareness about the issues we face, to show the world what skateboarding is really all about, to reclaim our ...
