I knew the Penguins would finally land on their feet after this glorious 10-0-1 run of late, but I wasn't thinking it would be like this. Sidney Crosby injured his ankle early in the first period during their game with Tampa Bay tonight. FSN Pittsburgh's Bob Errey reported that Crosby could miss up to four weeks. EEK! After a 28-year vacation, the immortal Peter Puck is returning to television as part of Maple Leaf broadcasts. Mr. Puck was first introduced during the 1970's on NBC to help American viewer's understand the game better. Later, he also could be found on CBC's coverage of Hockey Night in Canada.

They played beer league softball in Tiger Stadium. Nicholas Cage shot Snake Eyes at the Montreal Forum. Those are two examples of the last events at legendary venues in North America. As another iconic piece of architecture closes within the next year, it looks as if they're going to be playing hockey at Yankee Stadium before they close the doors for good.

Tomorrow, former Philadelphia Flyer Eric Lindros is expected to announce his retirement from the NHL, ending his 13-year career. Many will unfortunately remember Lindros for his concussion problems or forcing his way out of Quebec and not remember the dominant power forward he was.

Gary Bettman will be doing his best Howard Stern impression as the Commish will be hosting his own live radio show on XM called "NHL Hour", to be co-hosted by the moustached one, Bill Clement. Starting Tuesday, November 27th, the show will run 4-5pm on the NHL Home Ice channel 204 and through the leagues website, NHL.com. Beginning December 6, the show will run every Thursday at the same time slot

What you're seeing there on the right is the new NHL Stats Channel that debuted today on Direct TV. A few weeks ago, Direct TV began moving the NHL Center Ice channels up a few slots and starting them at channel 770, instead of channel 764. Once the move had been made, if you turned to channel 769, it would be a black screen, but the preview box would say, "UPCOMING: NHL STATS CHANNEL".

I made a comment just before the third period ended that Gary Bettman-style perfect ending to this game would be Sidney Crosby scoring the game-winning goal in a shoot-out. Little did I know at the time. I should have bought a lottery ticket then.

The National Hockey League was born in 1917. The players did not have a union until 1967, fifty years later. Two years after that, the referees finally had their own association. Now, they have their own website!
