Digger Phelps is interested in becoming Notre Dame's
new athletic director. At least one person -- check
out the video -- wants Phelps to become President.
Kept from going on the road due to
NCAA rules prohibiting college football head coaches from doing
so, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis had some extra time on his hands this spring. The Irish coach decided to give some time to us for an exclusive interview Tuesday morning, part of which can be found on...
A list of Notre Dame's top salaried employees,
trustees and officers as obtained on the school's tax
form.
The past two years, Notre Dame has paid
its former coach, Tyrone Willingham, more than its current
one, Charlie Weis, in base salary. This is a breakdown of how the school pays Weis.
In the process of talking with people about
Lou Holtz, we spent a few minutes chatting with
former Notre Dame offensive lineman Lindsay Knapp. If you remember, Knapp was a College & Pro Football Newsweekly All-American as an offensive tackle in 1992 and played with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1993-95 and then the Green Bay Packers from 1995-96. He was a fifth-round pick of the Chiefs ...
In our time covering Notre Dame, few names
are more divisive than Rudy Ruettiger. Rudy, of course,
is the walk-on who made all Notre Dame walk-ons famous after the 1993 film starring Sean Astin as the diminutive football player. An interesting note came across the desk about Rudy's continued attempt at selling health drinks. Oh, Rudy's company sells at $.55 a share.
We're a little late to this today as
it started popping up this afternoon on various blogs
and message boards and even the Detroit newspapers, but a YouTube video (check it out on the right if you can deal with the dizzying camerawork the first five minutes) has Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis speaking at the Blue-Gold game brunch.
We've seen former NFL players become television hosts
(Tiki Barber), sports analysts (pick a number) and gone
into the professional sector. This, though, we weren't expecting. Former Notre Dame wide receiver and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown is now a stock analyst.
Initially, we thought this might be in relation
to Brady Quinn, whose given name is Brayden and
is from a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Then we read more. And we couldn't help but point this out because seeing kids suffer in any way is, well, awful.
So this Tim Brown stock thing, it's not
a fluke. Brown's initial pick of Microsoft as a
stock to buy was $29.39 a share at Friday's close. As of 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Bill Gates-owned company was up to $30.25 a share, meaning you've made almost a dollar a share if you listened to the former Notre Dame Heisman Trophy winner.
Turns out Charlie Weis might have known what
was going on all along.
Part of our Memorial Day every year is
going down to cover the Indianapolis 500, one of
the many things we end up doing in the offseason, and one of the "celebrities" that showed up for the race was former USC and Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders running back Marcus Allen.
Tom Hammond comes through your television sets during
every Notre Dame home game each fall, bringing the
Irish to you in High Definition (or Regular Definition if you're still watching that). Now, he'll be on your Madden screen, too.
To the surprise of no one, Notre Dame
is above average in every sport in the latest
APR rankings released Tuesday. The Irish scored well in every sport and had eight perfect scores.
The story the NFL wishes would disappear won't
and today picked up even some more interesting evidence.
Charlie Weis still says nothing.
Charlie Weis is heading to Washington. Kind of.
No, he's not taking over the Redskins and he
won't be Washington state in a coaching capacity until Ty Bowl II in October against the University of Washington.
This is what it could come to for
Charlie Weis. For the rest of the SpyGate investigation
-- which we're convinced isn't going away so fast, despite what Roger Goodell may tell you -- Weis' name will pop up.
Joey Kemp needs to lose his mind for
a few minutes. The Notre Dame All America candidate
understands the pressure of playing goalie in lacrosse, facing balls harder than rocks fired at you at speeds up to 100 mph.
The third column of Tim Brown, Stock Analyst
popped up yesterday and this time, the former Notre
Dame wide receiver is recommending soft drinks, specifically Pepsi products (stock symbol: PBG). Brown liked the pick when it closed Friday at $33.38. Brown's picks, though, haven't done so well.

Now that Kevin White is safely in Durham,
