Scranton loses to Rochester, 9-3
Victor Zambrano got the start and was terrible. In 4 innings of work, Victor surrendered 8 runs on 11 hits and 3 walks, while managing to strike out two. This washed up major leaguer is definitely not going to get a shot anytime soon.
Scott Patterson allowed a solo homerun in his 2 innings of work, walking 1 while striking out 3.
Justin Christian was ...

Alfredo Aceves has finally been promoted to big club. It’s about time. Now, hopefully the Yankees will give him Ponson’s spot in the rotation. I can’t stand seeing that worthless piece of junk come out every 5th day only to tax the bullpen and allow 5+ runs. Chad Jennings has the story .
By the way, David Robertson was demoted in favor of Aceves. It had to be done.
Sorry ...

Scranton shuts out Buffalo, 2-0
Al Aceves got the start and was solid. In 6 innings of shutout ball, Al scattered 3 hits and walked 2 while he struck out 8. With this start, Al might have pushed Rasner out of the rotation. At least I hope so.
Mark Melancon struck out 3 in his 2 innings of relief.
Justin Christian and Melky Cabrera were 0 for 4.
Juan Miranda was 0 for 3.

I’d like to apologize in advance for the potentially sporadic posting over the next 2 weeks or so, as I just got back to school and will be busy with various things. That said, here’s the recap for tonight (better late than never).
Scranton squeaks by Lehigh Valley, 13-12
Phil Hughes was absolutely roughed up through 3 1/3 innings. The 22 year-old gave up 8 runs on 10 hits ...

Scranton falls to Rochester, 3-1
Alfredo Aceves put together his best outing in AAA, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) o 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 8. He gave up 2 homers, which is not a great sign, but otherwise it was a very solid performance.

Trenton handles Reading, 8-2
Victor Zambrano got the start, and looked very impressive through 5 scoreless innings. The oft-injured righty gave up just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 5. This may be premature, but I wonder if the Yankee brass is considering him for that last rotation spot if they think Hughes is not ready.
Reegie Corona was 2 for 5 with 2 ...

Scranton defeats Lehigh Valley, 9-6.
Phil Hughes got the start and was not good at all, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work. He threw 91 pitches in that span and also struck out 4. Even with the bad outing, I still think Phil gets called up to make his next start, as the Yankees don’t have a starter slated to pitch next Thursday against Roy Halladay and the Blue ...

Baseball America reports that the deal with Bleich, a sandwich pick out of Stanford, is done. According to BA, the lefty received a $700,000 bonus, which is below the slot recommendation for the 44th pick. I’m shocked that a Scott Boras client would accept a below-slot deal, and even more surprised that the Yankees would go after a below-slot guy in the sandwich round. This news, ...

Per Baseball America , the Yankees have officially signed 27th round pick Garrison Lassiter, a shortstop from West Forsyth High School in North Carolina to an overslot deal. Lassiter, a UNC recruit, signed for $600,000, which is about 2nd-round money. Here’s BA’s take on Lassiter:
A shortstop from West Forsyth High in Clemmons, N.C., Lassiter has a quick lefthanded bat, power ...

This time in terms of interviewing Yankees prospects, I got a hold of catching prospect, Kyle Higashioka, the 7th-round pick by the Yankees in this year’s draft out of Edison High School in Huntington Beach , California. Not only does Kyle have all the tools behind the plate to become a defensive stud, but he’s also got a projectable bat. It was a pleasure interviewing Kyle, and I can’t wait ...
