No loss ever feels good, even when you play with the grit of a Ross Gload type, but this one stings where it hurts. Gil Meche was absolutely stellar after allowing three runs early, two of which go in the "unearned" bin. All told, Meche gave up only two hits, walked one, and struck out nine over seven innings. His ERA (yes I know ERA isn't that great of a stat, believe me) was lowered to ...

One of the best things about not being in the U.S. right now? Complete separation from all coverage of the Little League World Series as well as the non-stop commercials for it with that annoying "My Sweet Love" song.

The battle for fourth place continues tonight in Cleveland. Sorta ironic timing for this series, as I spent most of the summer in Cleveland and got married there on the 16th. Unfortunately, the Royals just missed me, or me them... The Royals are 4-4 against the Tribe in 2008.

Eight Interesting Radio Affiliates
Longtime readers will note that I'm something of a radio geek. While the Royals have one of the largest and most geographically interesting radio networks, they certainly aren't alone. With the Continental U.S. nearly saturated with Major League ...
Banny, we're breaking up

Banny, sit down we need to talk.  You know I've had a man-crush on you for a long time which turned into true man-love.  When they told me your BABIP was unsustainable, I told them they were wrong (kinda).  When they told me your stuff wasn't good enough to succeed as a major league starter, I told them they just didn't know you like I did.  You're so smart, and I thought ...

Who is the greatest Kansas State baseball player in Major League history? For my money, it would probably have to be Ted Power , no?
Some Kind of Strange

Within the wider subculture of broadcast jockdom, each sport has its own little accents and memes. When you watch a football game the camera inevitably finds the most insane looking fans, people with no shirt and lots of body paint looking fierce and properly deranged. When you watch a basketball game, the camera shows hotties in the stands and any celebrities in the first row. And ...

And so we return triumphantly to last place.   After everything that happened in that game, somehow you just knew that it would come down to Brett Gardner versus Jeff Fulchino. Blah blah blah some other stuff about how painful extra inning losses like this one are. Some rational thoughts: I really don't hate Trey Hillman, but if Soria was avaiable it's hard to stomach the fact ...

Our beloved Royals and the big market oppressor known as the Yankees are tied 2-2 and headed for extra innings. Zack pitched great, Gordon homered, and we fielded like a minor b little league team on valium in the 7th. And I missed it. Hooray.

Royal legend Terry Shumpert ( stats ) was born on this day back in 1966. Amazingly, Shumpert played in fourteen big league seasons, yet never made a million dollars in a year. He will always be a true Royal however.

The Yankees are desperate for wins, the Royals are just desperate. The Royals are 4-3 against the Yankees this year. As a side note, I get married tomorrow, so I won't be around for the game thread tonight.

Draft Deadline Day Open Thread

With 6 1/2 hours to go, Hosmer remains unsigned.  Melville has been signed for $1.25M.  Brian Matusz at #4 was signed for $3.2M (guaranteed MLB contract).  What will Hosmer do? [Will prefers that we not duplicate threads and we've already got two threads on Melville signing and multiple places where Melville, Hosmer, Matusz and other draft and signing issues are being ...

The Royals are down 3-2 in the sixth, and Jo-El has come in to save the day after another "meh" outing by Hiram. Jose Guillen is so clutch that he doesn't even have to shift when he drives a stick. True. Blue. Tradition.

Your pitching matchup is Davies (4.66 ERA) v. Carrasco (2.57 ERA) . As I've stated before, Carrasco was always one of my favorite Royals back when he was one of ours. In my memory he was always bouncing back and forth between Omaha and KC, mixing in DL-trips along the way. Still, whether he was starting or working out of the 'pen, he was never terrible, which from 03-05 was enough to stand ...

Hochevar (5.54 ERA) v. Buehrle (3.94 ERA) The Royals have already faced Buehrle three times this season (5.30 ERA). It seems like more. Rany on Kila Really good piece on Kila from Rany. Offers some reasons to be pessimistic and optimistic about our "Hawaiian Punch". Good to see that a few scouts are liking him too. Carlos Pena? I'd take that.

Royals Retro: A Look Back at 2000

Royals Retro: A Look Back at 2000 I don't know if its kosher to pimp your own blog, so feel free to delete if I'm violating SB rules, but if its of interest to anyone, I have posted my most recent "Look Back", this time looking at the year 2000. It was an important year, a transitional year that marked the official beginning of the David Glass era, and the beginning of the Allard Baird ...

Tonight's pitching matchup is Brian Bannister (5.37 ERA) versus Javy Vazquez (4.74 ERA) . After two months of pain that saw his ERA climb to 5.49, Bannister has semi-rebounded in his last three starts, posting a 4.40 ERA in his last 14.1 IP.
