Golden State got a big win Tuesday, knocking
off the Tim Duncan-less Spurs at home. The win
softens the blow of losing in the Staples center against the Lakers. At shooting guard the Dubs are getting great contributions from Kelenna Azubuike, making up for the ineffectiveness of Marco Belinelli.
Golden State survived a late run in Memphis
to beat the Grizzlies. The game featured small lineups,
a lot of running and 53 three-pointers. This is the kind of game that the Warriors used to lose but big shots down the stretch from Baron, Jackson, Harrington and Azubuike sealed the deal.
Monta Ellis showed why he is one of
the league’s bright young stars as he dominated against
Minnesota. His development and the Warriors’ improved free throw shooting are both encouraging signs.
The Pistons absolutely worked GSW 109-87, who's leader,
Baron Davis, played very poorly. They were held below
100 points for only the fifth time this season. Scoring shouldn’t be a problem as they now look to salvage the second half of a back-to-back when the battle the Grizzlies tonight. Memphis’s pace better suits the boys form the bay.
Golden State fell behind early and couldn't control
the Nets' scorers throughout. They took the lead late
in that game but could not capitalize and gave it back in the waning seconds. The loss leaves GSW at 2-2 on their current road trip heading into Cleveland tomorrow.
The Warriors enter a turbulent stretch of the
schedule following Christmas. Surviving that would be important in
maintaining playoff position. A Chris Mullin move could be in the works involving young center Patrick O’Bryant or small forward Mickael Pietrus.
The Warriors beat San Antonio 130-121 with Baron
Davis leading the team 34 points and Stephen Jackson
scoring 12 of his 29 points in overtime. Earlier in the day GSW waived their backup center DJ Mbenga, called up D-League center Kosta Perovic and signed backup point guard C.J. Watson.
The Warriors exercised their demons in Denver, winning
there for the first time since 2003. The defense
came alive as they held one of the leagues most explosive offense’s to fewer then 100 points.
Chris Paul keyed a 116-104 win by the
Hornets over the Golden State Warriors. 26 Baron Davis
points were not enough to stop all five New Orleans starters from abusing the home team’s defense. The Dubs were taken out of their game by a squad who pounded the glass and harried them into 13 turnovers.
Golden State survived consecutive slow starts to down
Milwaukee and Chicago on the road. Against the Bulls
GSW went with a short bench and rode their starters. The next night the Bucks faced some of the younger Warriors bigs but could not contain Al Harrington.
The Dubs fell 119-109 to Utah Tuesday, continuing
their run of misery against the Jazz. Both Baron
Davis and Stephen Jackson left the game in the second half with injuries. Dub’s GM Chris Mullin was apparently looking at trying to bring Pacer’s forward Jermaine O'Neal to Oakland.
The Warriors started their season off with a
whimper getting out muscled but the Utah Jazz and
soundly beaten. If Don Nelson had the idea of actually playing big men maybe his team could have had a shot in this game.
Golden State's shacking of the Bucks showcased how
this team has been reborn after a 0-6 start.
On a night where everything was working, Don Nelson experimented with his lineups. He went deep into his bench and used Monta Ellis at the point for much of the game, a spot which GSW needs him to occupy.
The Golden State Warriors staged a three quarter
rally to defeat Indiana. The game was a home
coming for two former overpaid Warriors whose departure harkened in a new era for the team. The players who came from Indiana didn’t exactly shine but Baron Davis and Monta Ellis were anchors out on the court.
Monta Ellis started hot but needed Stephen Jackson
to put away a resilient Minnesota team in the
Target center. Antoine Walker was big off the bench but couldn’t overcome the Warrior’s advantage in the backcourt. Jackson Ellis and Baron Davis out scored the top three Timberwolf guards 60-27.
Golden State got destroyed in the fourth quarter
against Indiana, blowing a 17-point lead and losing 125-117.The
Dubs stole the ball 12 times in the first quarter but could never quite put the Pacers away. Baron Davis scored 24 but was out dueled by Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy who scored 29 and 24 respectively.
No, Adonal Foyle will not be playing center
for the Warriors next year, so you can breathe
your sigh of relief right now. Unfortunately, and for some inexplicable reason, his original contract figure with the W’s will still count next year. Lucky for Chris Mullin and the organization, the team holds an option for the 2009-2010 season. Hopefully, they’ll cut him then, but you never can tell ...
The Warriors got off to a fast start
on Friday but needed late plays from their leaders
to keep the Grizzlies from getting too close. Baron Davis ran the show, handing out a career high 19 assists. His right hand man, Monta Ellis scored 27 points, only missing three shots.
The Warriors came out flat but came back
only to lose the game late. Ryan Gomes hit
two free throws with under one minute left to give the Timberwolves a 109-198 lead which they would not relinquish. Monta Ellis scored 28 points and hit 10 points to lead the Warriors.
The Warriors did not play a pretty game
against the Knicks but they survived 106-104. Andris Biedrins
grabbed 26 boards and Stephen Jackson hit four big fourth quarter threes. Warrior fans also received word that their squad will likely soon be getting former all-star power forward and franchise ruiner Chris Webber.
